Service Description

Cadets

* are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They learn valuable life and work skills like teamwork, leadership, and citizenship
* participate in training on a weekly basis during the regular school year an average of one night a week. In addition, there are Cadet Summer Training Centres (CSTCs) from coast to coast in Canada where course cadets receive training and staff cadets are employed each summer in the CSTCs and abroad on cultural and training exchanges
* are not part of the Canadian Forces, nor is there any expectation for them to join the military
* focus on adventure training activities through active outdoor pursuits like expeditions, trekking, rock climbing, survival training, orientation and rappelling. Through this cadets gain valuable life skills, knowledge of themselves and an awareness of their environment
* learn about army traditions and may participate in a variety of national and international expeditions that focus on adventure training like whitewater rafting, horseback riding and canoeing

First year training teaches bushcraft, citizenship, drill, leadership, marksmanship, public speaking and map & compass. Later levels include first-aid and how to instruct others.
