Service Description

* ensures the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the Indigenous patients and their families are met.
* provides language services such as interpretation, translation, completion of consent forms for Ojibway/Saulteaux, Cree, Ojib-Cree, Island Lake Dialect, while other Indigenous languages are on call basis (ex. Dene)
* offers cultural/spiritual services for all indigenous patients
* provides crisis/resource/adjustment counseling and other culturally-appropriate supports
* participates in interdisciplinary education courses for Health Sciences Centre staff
* acts as a host for training program placements for indigenous students and will facilitate specific volunteer services
* implements the Family Group Conference model, for families of indigenous clients when indigenous patients have been admitted to HSC, especially in cases involving ICU
* services of a discharge Nurse
* assists in obtaining the services of a Traditional Healer
* works in cooperation/consultation with Nursing Stations, Health Centres & First Nations & Inuit Health Branch
